New to Wallingford Bridge Club? Info about us ...

Need a bridge partner? Phone a Partnership Host A Host is available on Club nights to ensure that anyone who wants to play can do so, even if he/she arrives without a partner. Such individuals will be paired and the host will play if anyone is left without a partner.

Following extensive consultation with Clubs and the Membership the EBU has published proposals for its future funding. The proposals are available on the EBU website and in the club. The essence of the proposals are to move away from annual subscriptions and master point fees to a ‘PAY to PLAY’ fee whereby all players contribute to the funding of the EBU. Your committee are in agreement with these proposals which will involve an increase of some 17p in table money but everyone would be an EBU member with no annual subscription. Should the proposals go ahead the club would also fund itself by table money alone if members agree.

The details of the proposals are covered in a 28 page Strategy Proposal published by the EBU. Your views were sought at the AGM. No increases in table money or annual subscription are proposed for the coming year.

The Wallingford Duplicate Bridge Club is a thriving and very active club with just over 240 members. The membership includes current and ex-County players, at least 20 enthusiasts who regularly attend the National Congresses and other events. At the other end of the scale we have complete beginners who are attending the Club’s classes.

If you are already an experienced player you are very welcome to come along on Wednesday and Friday evenings. On both evenings we play 24 boards of fairly serious bridge including our own Club Tournaments, several National Simultaneous Pairs and qualifying heats for National and County competitions as well as some friendly pairs evenings. Master Points are issued for all of these evenings.

If you don’t think you are up to that level or you are looking to blow off the cobwebs and return to playing after an enforced absence then come along on Monday evening. This is a very relaxed session playing 22 boards just for fun although we do keep a record of all the scores and award a trophy to the most improved player.

All our evening sessions start at 7:30 although you will need to be there by 7:25.

On Thursday afternoons (2 p.m.) we hold an informal bridge playing session where the format is decided dependant on the number of participants.

The table money for all sessions is £2 (£2.50 for visitors); the annual subscription is £5.

In addition to the Club nights the club runs 6 league teams during the winter months, mainly in the Wessex League, and 3 teams in the Oxford Summer League.

We play at the Roke and Berrick Salome Village Hall (see maps below).

The club also has its own group of qualified Bridge tutors who run courses that range from those for complete beginners to those aimed at improving the standard of its better club players. (See Classes).

If you can come along to join as a member, a visitor or a student you are assured of a warm welcome.

If you would like to know more about the club then go to Contact Info and have a chat to the Club Captain or the Chairman.
